McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, is home to the nation's oldest and foremost research program in a psychiatric hospital setting. Since 1888 McLean has been dedicated to studying the role of biological factors in mental illness, and today the hospital has over three acres of floor space dedicated to this important research.
McLean Hospital is a Harvard Medical School affiliate with more than $40 million in sponsored projects annually. The research program is funded by federal sponsors such as NIH, DOD, DARPA, several foundations as well as private funders. McLean Hospital maintains the largest neuroscience and psychiatry research program of any private psychiatric hospital in the United States.
